Sickles Gryphons hosted the Bloomingdale Bulls at 5:00 on Monday February 15. The Gryphons came into the game undefeated at 2-0 while the Bulls came into the game looking for the first victory of the season. The first half was heavily contested when the Bulls scored with 9 seconds left in the half to tie the score at 5. The Gryphons came out in the second half and scored 6 in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th on their way to win the game 14-7. Sickles was lead in points by senior Dillon O'Connor who had 3 goals and 7 assists while Evan Knapp lead the Bulls with 3 goals. Up next for Sickles is Freedom at home on Wednesday 2/17 while Bloomingdale has their first home game of the season against Robinson on 2/18.

Back in the days of SA's dominance in Florida it was a common thing to call them the Big Red Machine and last night that fit perfectly. It wasn't flashy. It wasn't showboating. It was just a high quality offensive and defensive performance in all facets of the game. An example of this is that Boca actually played the faceoffs well but still lost 62% of them. This is a team that will contend for national ranking this year and it will take a lot to beat them in state. As long as I have written for FLN I have looked forward to this match-up. The schools are only a couple of miles apart and many of the kids on both sides have played club or summer ball with each other and certainly against each other. John “Pat” Mahoney, a junior attackman at Barron Collier High School has verbally committed to play D1 Lacrosse for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The UMBC Retrievers compete within NCAA D1 athletics in the America East Conference. Pat could not be more excited to play for Head Coach Don Zimmerman and Coach Andy Gallagher, “This is a dream come true for me, and I feel my future looks bright as a Retriever.” Pat is a three year starter at BCHS and is currently serving as team captain. In a hard fought battle with the Providence Stallions, Leon overcame a 6-2 halftime deficit to pull off an exciting 8-7 come from behind victory. Leon jumped out to an early 2 goal lead in the first quarter with goals from Quentin Parker and Trevor McCall, only to be answered by Providence ending the first quarter tied at 2-2. Midfielder Quentin Parker took a big hit late in the first quarter and sat out the rest of the first half. Providence proceeded to go on a 4 goal run and ended the first half up 6-2. American Heritage-Boca jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead, saw that completely evaporate into a 9-9 tie after three, and then recovered to outscore Martin County 3-0 in the fourth to come away with a 12-9 win on a beautiful night for lacrosse , , , not to mention pretty much anything else too.
