BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 7 Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse team returned to action after a 14-day layoff and defeated host Lynn University, 21-5, on Wednesday night. The Mocs are now 6-1 overall this season, while Lynn is 2-6.
Hailey Daleo set a new school record with nine goals on the day, while adding a pair of assists for 11 total points. Her 14 shots taken also set a new school record. Marina Jozokos also had 11 points tonight, on six goals and five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half

  • The game was never in doubt, as the Mocs scored the game’s first goal less than four minutes in, when senior Marina Jozokos fed sophomore Hailey Daleo for her first goal of the game.
  • Senior midfielder Catherine DeKorte scored the game’s second goal, followed by another Daleo tally, and the Mocs led 3-0.
  • After a Lynn goal, Florida Southern scored eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-1 lead.
  • Lynn would score twice more before the half ended, for the 11-3 score at the break.

2nd Half

  • The lead was never in danger throughout the second half, with five different Mocs scoring in the final 30 minutes.
  • Junior defender Ally Louden scored the 16th goal for Florida Southern, while sophomore attack Katie Yeagle scored her second goal of the game with 1:39 remaining in the contest.
  • Freshman Olivia Manghisi scored her second of the game in the game’s final minute for the 21-5 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • While Daleo set a new high water mark for goals in a single game, both her and Jozokos‘ 11 points are tied for second best, all time. The record is 12 points in a single game, set by Caitlin Chase in 2013, against Gannon University.
  • The previous record for goals  a single game had been eight, done twice by Kendall Kerge, once in 2016, and once again in 2017.
  • The team’s 21 goals marks the second time this season the Mocs have scored at least 20 goals, having done so against PBA on April 3.
  • Patricia Werker earned the win in goal tonight, making four saves in 30 minutes of action.
