What happens when you match up two talented middle school lacrosse teams, located less than two miles apart, in the lacrosse hotbed of Jupiter? Answer: A terrific rivalry and matchup which delivers lacrosse at a very high and competitive level. The community comes together for their annual meeting at the Jupiter High School stadium where the players, coaches and parents, get to experience a setting which has a lot of great lacrosse history. More often than not, this will give one of the participating teams their only loss of the middle school season. This is truly a clash of giants in the middle school lacrosse landscape.

From Jupiter High lacrosse Head Coach Nick O’Hara:

”The annual JMS/IMS game at our stadium is a great event for the Jupiter lacrosse community, bringing future Warriors and the current Warriors together, sharing stadium field for the night. It’s exciting for the middle school players and gives the high school players a chance to appreciate those years and the people that helped them along their lacrosse journey.”

From Independence Middle coach Bobby Hogan:

“Tough loss for IMS against a deep and talented JMS squad. IMS was led by faceoff specialist and 2 way middie Dylan Furshman, who had 2 goals and was solid everywhere on the field. Jackson Hamilton led the team at attack with 2 goals. Campbell Hogan helped out with 1 goal & 3 assists. Big contributions were made from Connor O’Brien, Brady Hawkins and Jackson Christ at middie. The defense was led by Wade DelPortal in goal, Jacob Bashaw, Randy Preisendorf, Jack McCabe and Charlie Boes.  Most of the players on both teams have been playing lacrosse with and against each other for the past 5-7 years in rec, travel and middle school. So, it was fun to watch them play. IMS looks forward to the rematch later this season.”

From Jupiter Middle coach Paul Rasmus:

“Great win for the JMS Mariners yesterday against a very strong & talented Independence MS Eagles team. The game was back and forth with JMS putting it away late. Once again the JMS team looked really good in transition thanks to strong showings by Nolan Hackett, Dylan Cava, Colin Douglass, Gavin Meyers, Dylan Creps and Carter Simonson. The defense played solid on-ball defense. Kaden Creps had several key saves at big moments in the game. Three of our 6th graders combined for the first JMS goal as Gavin Meyers carried across the top and sent the ball to David Druhot on GLE. David hit a cutting Bryson DeOreo who finished on the crease to tie the game at 1-1. David Druhot and Landon Rasmus each finished with 3 goals and an assist. Matthew Sofarelli continued to solidify his role as the quarterback of the JMS offense picking up 4 assists and one goal. This was a total team effort on defense, offense, and in transition. These two teams match up again later this season and guaranteed it will be another good game!”

We are looking forward to the future as many of these Eagles and Mariners move on to be JHS Warriors. Thanks to IMS Team Mom, Karen Preisendorf, for organizing the game at the Jupiter Community High School Stadium and to Jupiter HS administration and Coach Nick O’Hara for hosting the game.

Thanks to all coaches for their comments!

The second matchup of the season will be held at the Jupiter Community Park on March 31, at 4pm.
