Vancouver, B.C. – Austin Jerhoff, a 2017 alum of Lynn University and a four-year member on the Fighting Knights men’s lacrosse team, has recently signed a professional box lacrosse contract with the Vancouver Stealth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Jerhoff is the first-ever player from the Lynn lacrosse program to sign a professional contract.
“Lynn helped me grow so much as a person, balancing both being a student and an NCAA athlete,” said Jerhoff. “The Lynn lacrosse team holds such a big part of my heart and was an amazing four-year journey.”
Jerhoff signed with the Stealth on August 1, 2018. The NLL is the highest level of professional box lacrosse with 11 teams across North America: seven in the United States and four in Canada.
The Calgary, Alberta, native played the last two seasons with the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse League (WLA). The WLA, sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association, is a men’s Senior A box lacrosse league consisting of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. Before returning to the Salmonbellies for his second season, Jerhoff spent a brief stint on the NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks practice squad.
Over two campaigns in New Westminster, Jerhoff registered 13 goals and 16 assists over 18 games played as an attackman. He tacked on three assists in the 2017 playoffs.
Jerhoff was on the inaugural Lynn University men’s lacrosse roster in 2014, eventually medically redshirting his first season before becoming a focal part of the Fighting Knights attack from 2015-17.
“Austin was an integral part of building the Lynn lacrosse program from scratch starting in 2014,” said head coach Brian Kingsbury. “He has followed his dream with playing professional box and it’s great to see Austin work towards this dream. The first professional lacrosse player for Lynn lacrosse in our short history shows how far Lynn lacrosse has come from the start that Austin help build.”
A bruiser around the crease, Jerhoff closed out his Blue and White career as the program’s all-time leader in career points (141), goals (95), assists (46), man-up goals (11), shots (244) and shots-on-goal (176). He also holds program records for most points (9) and assists (7) in a game (Less-McRae; Feb. 11, 2017).
He was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team in 2016 as a redshirt-sophomore along with the league’s All-Freshman Team and All-Tournament Team in 2015.
“Starting the program its first year was a tough task, but pushing myself and teammates helped me become a more complete player and teammate through my four years,” Jerhoff continued. “Helping the program grow was such a cool experience and I plan on using it to help me at the next level.”
Be sure to keep up with Jerhoff and the Stealth as the 2019 NLL season kicks off this December.
