EXCERPT

Carli Fleisher is no stranger to the steady patience that is required for hard work in silence to pay off in the limelight. The junior attacker at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida has grown up as a high-level athlete in a non-traditional hotbed for lacrosse.

Coming from an active and close-knit family, with weekly pickle ball games, Carli has always been a lover of sports and competition. Her two older sisters paved the way for Carli’s experiences with recreational sports growing up, with soccer, flag football, and tennis consuming her attention and energy after school. In third grade, lacrosse was the last sport she started; when she did, she never looked back.

Carli began playing with the MadSkillz club team, which fed directly into the Florida Select program. Going on eight years later, many of those same girls are still playing together at tournaments and outside school practices. They have built a special bond that can only be cultivated through such long-lasting friendships. Carli attributes much of her club team’s growth and success to these foundational relationships. “Being with the same girls from such a young age, we have a connection on the field that’s greater than what other teams have because we’ve known each other since we were in third grade. It definitely shows on the field,” she says.
