Saint Leo Lacrosse Teams In Action This Weekend

  • The No. 17 Saint Leo men’s lacrosse team takes on visiting Westminster out of Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
  • The Lions will enter the game with a 4-1 record and their lone loss coming to No. 2 Limestone.
  • Saint Leo is averaging 17.8 goals per game on 69.6-shot on goal percentage. Twenty-one different Lions have already scored in the young season, three having put up double-digit goals. Saint Leo is currently second in the nation in scoring offensive, and first in shot percentage. They also rank first in clearing percentage and fourth in points per game.
  • Junior Kyle Pauwels is a two-time SSC offensive player of the week and has scored 22 goals and added five assists so far this season. He is currently second in the SSC in goals per game at 4.40, second to Andrew Kew of Tampa who is at 4.43. Pauwels is currently fifth in the nation in goals per game, and second in shot percentage at .759. He is also 10th in points per game at 5.40.
  • Fellow junior Jake Gilmour broke the Saint Leo record for assists in a career in just 33 games for the green and gold. He has 61 career assists and continues to expand that margin atop the leader board. Gilmour has dished out 13 assists this season while adding 13 goals. He is first in the SSC in assists per game, and fourth in goals per game. He is second to Pauwels in points per game, which puts him at 15th in the nation in points per game. He is 9th in the nation in assists per game.
  • Westminster is 1-0 entering Saturday’s showdown with their first win of the season coming against then-ranked No. 18 Rockhurst, 14-13.
  • Jake Berard led the Griffins with five goals in that game, while Nick Marcy added three goals and two assists.
Women’s Lacrosse Notes
  • The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team host Seton Hill in their fourth-straight home game. The Lions are currently 3-2 on the season.
  • Offensively, Saint Leo is averaging 15.0 goals per game, while averaging 11.8 draw controls. They are also only allowing 9.0 goals per game.
  • Katherine Larson has tallied ten goals on the season, while Leslie Ferguson, Sabrina Sanacore, and Lexie Walstad have each scored eight. Senior Caroline Fraser leads the team in points with 18 as she has scored seven goals and dished out 11 assists.
  • Defensively, in all but one game, the Lions have split time in goal between sophomore Rebecca Halley and freshman Erin Davis. Halley has made 25 saves, while Davis has recorded 16. On the back line, junior Amanda Coppolo has recorded ten caused turnovers while adding 13 ground balls.
  • Seton Hill comes into Saturday with a 1-2 record, having lost two-straight conference matches before heading to Florida.
  • Charlotte Cunningham leads the Griffins with 14 points as she has scored six goals and added eight assists. Keagan Pontious and Katelyn Cressman both have added six goals as well.
