via press release . . . picture from SSC web site   MELBOURNE, Fla.- Sunshine State Conference Women’s Lacrosse coaches have selected Rollins College as the preseason favorite for 2016. Rollins received 16 votes and four first place votes, edging Florida Southern College for the top spot in the poll. Florida Southern received 13 points and the remaining first place vote, while third place, Saint Leo University, received nine votes. Florida Tech sits in fourth with eight votes and the University of Tampa rounds out the group with four votes. Rollins, the 2015 Inagural SSC Champions, had an overall record of 13-5, and went 3-1 in SSC competition last season. The Tars took victories over Florida Tech, Tampa, and Saint Leo with their only SSC loss at Florida Southern. Rollins finished the 2015 season ranked No. 8 in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll*. Florida Southern, 2015 Regular Season Champions, finished with a 19-4 overall record. The Moccasins were ranked No. 6 in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll*. Florida Southern swept SSC competition last year, defeating Florida Tech, Tampa, Rollins, and Saint Leo. Rollins won the first inaugural SSC Women’s Lacrosse championship with a 12-10 overtime victory at Florida Southern. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament. Rollins lost to No. 1 Lock Haven (12-3) in the first round. Florida Southern lost in overtime, 14-13, to No. 3 Lindenwood (MO). Sunshine State Conference play opens up on February 7, with The University of Tampa hosting Rollins College. The SSC Conference tournament begins April 29. Regional tournament play starts May 13.
