They are just one or two plays away from being unbeaten in ASUN play late in the season. They have many veterans on defense and many returning players from last year’s team that was quite strong. We will need to play a team-oriented game and work hard to execute for a full 60 minutes. It’s a great challenge to face this level of competition late in the season.” – Head Coach Mindy McCord “Furman has gotten hot of late and is playing its best lacrosse of the season. Their win over Old Dominion showed their resilience and ability to win when the moment counted. They are holding their Senior Day on Sunday so we are sure they will be hungry to go out with a win. They have the most experience of any team we play this year and we have seen some veteran groups. Furman has played some tough opponents and built around those early season games. They are well coached and very skilled and they possess speed in key positions.” – Associate Head Coach Paul McCord #PhinLaxFacts
  • The Dolphins have won 31 consecutive ASUN regular season games
  • Jacksonville leads the country in shots-per-game (37.36) and shots-on-goal-per-game (28.21)
  • Sydney Matthews leads the ASUN and is sixth nationally with an 7.63 goals-against average
  • The Dolphins are first nationally with 15.71 caused turnovers-per-game, and Erika Brager leads the ASUN with 1.86 per-contest
Record Watch Danielle Della Rocca, the ASUN’s all-time leader in goals and points, is JU’s all-time leader with 235 points and stands eight goals away from tying Morgan Derner (2011-14) for most in JU history, and needs nine assists to tie Taylor McCord for most all-time. Ashtyn Hiron is only seven points away from 100 in her career, and Hannah Wilcox stands just 13 away. The two could give Jacksonville a rare feat, boasting potentially boasting up to five players with 100 or more career points (Della Rocca, Rachel Aus, and Courtney Valdez). Brager has 26 caused turnovers on the year, and Wilcox is right behind with 25, both well within striking distance of taking assistant coach Brittney Orashen‘s single-season record of 30 in 2015. Brager has 39 ground balls this season, nine from tying Orashen’s 2015 record as well. Valdez and Brager Achieve ASUN Weekly Honors After two impressive victories last week that led to their team clinching a spot in the ASUN Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship, Jacksonville University’s Courtney Valdez and Erika Brager swept this week’s ASUN Lacrosse Player of the Week awards, the league office announced on Tuesday. Series History The Dolphins won at home against the Paladins in 2016 by a score of 16-9. Hiron netted four scores, and Della Rocca, Lillie Miller, and Taylor McCord had hat tricks. JU also hosted CCU and prevailed, 16-4. Jacksonville leads 4-0 all-time against the Paladins, and 3-0 against the Chanticleers. Do You Know the Enemy? Coastal Carolina’s only ASUN loss has been by a single-goal to Old Dominion. Courtney Genovese and Sophie Crowther each have scored 28 goals. Goalie Harley Barrett owns 97 saves in 13 games. Furman enters this weekend red-hot; owners of a five-game win streak. Abby Shields leads the team with 27 goals and 49 points, and goalkeeper Maggie Friel has totaled 75 saves. Previously A strong showing by the Jacksonville University (10-4, 7-0) seniors led to an easy home victory against Kennesaw State University (7-7, 3-4) Saturday at D.B. Milne Field by a score of 23-2. A trio of seniors, Danielle Della Rocca, Rachel Aus, and Courtney Valdez, poured in four goals in front of a great showing of support. The win gave Jacksonville a seven-game win straight and 31 consecutive ASUN Conference regular season decisions. Coming Soon… Jacksonville closes the regular season at in-state ASUN opponent Stetson on Apr. 28
