FLN's own Mark Geddis caught up with Booker Corrigan, longtime Lacrosse broadcaster, event runner and all around good guy in Tampa last weekend as his organization put on the Under Armour Call Back Academy.Booker's best known event to most of us in the Florida Lacrosse community is the annual Under Armour All American Game (both for Boys and Girls), an event for 44 of the best players in America in their senior year of high school.  Florida fans will remember that participants from Florida include Dylan Hess, Christian Tomei, Regan Alexander and Caitlyn Wurzburger, among others.Booker has targeted Florida as a great place to hold his national events, as you'll see in these interviews. Part 1 - The Under Armour All American Game https://twitter.co...

A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call out of the blue from Chris Bocklet, who I hadn't seen for about 4 years (we had breakfast in Boca with Ernie Mahler) except for a brief conversation at a Florida Launch game and we discussed a clinic he was putting on in Delray Beach in late December.  His brother Matt, sister Casey and Sammy Jo Tracy were all participating and they were also slated to work a few other events. HC Andy Bolger of SJP II was helping to organize and host the event.  Chris was just about wrapping up his professional career, having joined PLL for a few games.  Mike was the President of the Denver Outlaws when the MLL folded recently, and he worked closely with SA HC Tony Seaman there.  Chris was quite the player at UVA, as was the rest ...

Long time readers know I will get on a soapbox once in a while . . . about supporting referees more is a frequent bugaboo as an example. This is becoming more and more one for me.#MTLG stands for More Training, Less GamesI've been on the road at events for the last 7 weekends except for the weekend after Thanksgiving and I'll be at Jingle Brawl this weekend.  The best one was at IMG (that will surprise long time readers given the way I've failed to cover the IMG teams in the past) and that one was mostly about player development.  It wasn't perfect.  The made for LSN broadcast All Star Game was something I barely watched, preferring to catch up on the sidelines with coaches and referees I hadn't seen much of this year, or in a few cases, getting to know someone for the...

via Sportico.com  PREMIER LACROSSE LEAGUE MERGING WITH MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE TO UNIFY OUTDOOR GAME by Scott Soshnick Excerpt:The Premier Lacrosse League’s launch in 2019 prompted many associated with the sport to ask whether there was enough support from financial linchpins like sponsors and ticket-buying fans to sustain two outdoor leagues. The answer, it seems, is no.To that end, the PLL and Major League Lacrosse, founded about two decades ago, are merging. The move consolidates outdoor lacrosse into a single entity that will operate under the banner of the Premier Lacrosse League, whose financial backers include billionaire Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai, The Raine Group and Creative Artists Agency.Co-founded by lacrosse star Paul Rabil and...

For those who are not as familiar with the Women's College Club organizations, these two groups are the oversight for the Women;s college game at the Club level, similar to how the MCLA runs the Men's side of the sport. The WCLA is the larger of the two and a number of the major universities in the state have club programs for the Women, including Gainesville, which would surprise many.  WCLA schools from their web site included UCF, FSU, FGCU, Miami, FAU, USF and UF.It's a shame that this occurred and here are the press releases: via US Lacrosse  US LACROSSE CANCELS 2021 WCLA CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT Due to safety and health concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the strong likelihood that a limited number of teams will be in competit...

The lacrosse community has toiled long and hard, and mostly in anonymity, in the mainstream media.  We've had our moments in local newspapers and a few TV mentions here and there, but honestly we are well down the totem pole in coverage statewide.  For those who did not know back when Wells Dusenbury and I recorded a weekly podcast for ESPN 106.3 in West Palm Beach, those podcasts were the MOST LISTENED TO on that station, ahead of the Dolphins, Heat, High School Football, etc.The simple answer for that was 'where else could you go for information back them'?  This was before Tampa Lax Report started and other information providers were around, although Ray Carnicelli's Lax904 was up and running.  He concentrated mostly on the Jacksonville area and has success with that audie...

Author's note:  For all of you who did not see this or do not subscribe to US Lacrosse's magazine, there was a fun article last week concerning the rising number of NFL players, past and present, who have children who play our favorite sport.  Here's the article and link. THE ALL-NFL LAX-DAD TEAM FRI NOV 27 2020 | MATT HAMILTON | PROIt all started with an innocent tweet. Former NFL quarterback Eli Manning, a two-time Super Bowl MVP for the New York Giants, posted a picture of Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. What Manning believed to be a Sunday stroll down memory lane — to all the great matchups between his Giants and the rival Eagles — turned into much more. You see, Manning snapped the picture en route to a lacrosse ...
