Author's Note:  Michael Ward is a columnist with LaxRecords.com and is also a lacrosse parent who decided to share the good and bad of his experiences.  I appeared on the latest LaxRecords.com podcast with Michael and I can tell you that if you listened to his segment you'll know he truly understands what he is talking about.  I strongly suggest that ANY current lacrosse parent will get a lot out of what Michael wrote!   I’m often asked about travel teams. What high school program do you think is better for my son or what camps have the most impact. A word of caution … when you ask for my opinion, buckle up, you’re going to get it. I base my views on experiences I’ve had with my son, on friends whose kids play in other states, even on friends whose children play othe...

Broadcast partner Wells Dusenbury published his feature article and video interview with Andrew Pollack, father of MSD victim Meadow Pollack, today in the Sun-Sentinel:   Excerpt: Andrew Pollack keeps a keen eye on his stopwatch as his St. Thomas Aquinas lacrosse players sprint past him. Nowadays, being on the field as the team’s statistician is an especially welcome respite from a parent’s worst nightmare. His 18-year-old daughter, Meadow, was shot to death in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas massacre on Feb. 14, one of 17 students and staffers killed. “It’s emotional every time I come here, because the kids feel my pain,” Pollack said. “Coming out here takes my mind off of everything that goes through my head during day, which is painful. I can’t even describ...

Author's Note:  This is a link to US Lacrosse's section on those categories.  As the high school season starts to approach I thought it would make sense for players, parents and coaches to know that there is this great resource on the USL web site for information.   Excerpt: A healthy diet and good eating habits are essential for a young athlete's development and performance. Jackie Berning, Ph.D, a registered dietician and board certified specialist in sports dietetics who serves as a member of the US Lacrosse Sports Science & Safety Committee, notes that for athletes in season and for those engaged in daily workouts, consuming carbohydrates within 30 minutes after exercise and again after two hours can help muscles reload and rebuild by replacing glycogen up to...

via US Lacrosse website - picture by John Strohsacker   Author's Note:  Read that first paragraph carefully . . . if you cause your team to get penalized because you can't let a call go, then don't complain if it happens . . . the governing body is looking to make a statement about getting their referees to get tougher.  Don't say I didn't warn you . . .    Across the country officials are leaving their sport because of inappropriate coach or fan behavior. It is one thing to be raked over the coals for a perceived missed call in the NFL, MLB, or NBA. It is quite another to be chastised endlessly by coaches and fans at every high school and youth game. For some officials the love of officiating is replaced by a desire to get the game over. That results in givi...
