Author's note: Since I don't have a season recap for Webber it meade sense to choose this as their 'recap' . . . there will be plenty of noise coming from them   BABSON PARK, Fla. (May 1, 2020) –  In anticipation for the upcoming 2021 men's lacrosse season, the first ever season for lacrosse at Webber International University, Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Chris Burdick has announced his inaugural recruiting class for the 2020-21 academic year. Coach Burdick said, "I would like to welcome the first lacrosse recruiting class to the Webber family. This group of young men have accepted the daunting challenge of starting a new chapter for athletics at the university. Each one of these men were carefully selected based on a number of criteria, most of which is the chara...

2020 College Review: The Florida Gators Up And Down 6-2 Season

College/MCLA, Featured Posts, Florida Gators Women, Florida Lacrosse News
Author's Note:  I'll be going school by school over the summer to give a recap of the truncated college seasons   The Florida Gators Women's program had one of those seasons that gave both really high high's and headscratching lows. The team finished 6-2 and showed they could play at a level indicative of a championship contender but had trouble sustaining consistency.  How else do you explain back to back weekends of beating then #1 Maryland at College Park and then coming home to lose badly to a Loyola team ranked #12 by 11 goals?  That was followed by a home win over #3 Stony Brook and a road loss to #15 Dartmouth?  National pollsters needed Pepto Bismal on a weekly basis. Here's a link to the schedule/results HERE The Individual Statistics showed something that m...

King’s Academy Co-Captain Jacob Webb, Jr. Faces His Toughest Opponent

In this absolute kidney stone of a year we have to report another high school lacrosse player facing a lengthy road to recovery.  Jacob Webb, Jr. was a co-captain as a junior last year for one of my top-ranked teams in Class 1A and is a commit to D1 Albany for the 2021-22 incoming season.  I suspect he'd been closely considered for South Florida All-American status this season and next.     Without being a medical expert I can say that a neck pain lead to an MRI that showed a tumor in his spine that could not be fully removed. Although I have had to report on other awful news items this year I was not as close to one as this.  I have gotten to know the Webb family much better the last year or so and they are a great family and I enjoy my time with them. ...

(Author's note: We will be leading off this re-boot with another sad story in our local lacrosse community, just adding to a miserable 2020 for the sport, and that will be up later today but I needed to get a few things off my chest before we get to it. Also, if you sent in a Recruit Commitment questionnaire that hasn't been published yet but your choice has changed please let me know at lee@floridalacrossenews.com)   It's been a lengthy time between posts as I made the decision that there really wasn't any point in handling the last 3+ months as if things were normal. We've received plenty of content from our contacts and I'll spread that over time. Suffice to say that what happened the last few weeks and months means we are entering a new period in our country a...

Cardinal Mooney’s Mike Bavaro: The Long Road to Recovery

Featured Posts, Florida Lacrosse News, High School, Lee's Corner, Tampa/Gulf Coast Boys
This has been a tough year for the Florida lacrosse community.  Cardinal Mooney Senior Mark Bavaro was already suffering from an ACL injury and had not played for the team this year but all that paled in comparison to the boating accident on March 19th that seriously damaged multiple vertebrae and left him with no feeling below his midsection. The story details are at this link for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune:  LINK Mike went through two surgeries to stabilize his neck and is now up at Shepherd Center in Atlanta.  Those who follow the John Michael Knight recovery will remember that was where he started his recovery too. And just like John Michael, Mark has a facebook page dedicated to a similar approach: https://www.facebook.com/mikeybavaropage/   https://w...
