Note, we'll also update on the MLL efforts too.   There is a video to watch at the link, which is HERE   The Premiere Lacrosse League changed their format this year for the current economic and social realities and have come up with a single-location 2 week format for the now 7-team league to play. There will be a group play to determine seeding and th #1 seed will receive the only Bye into the Semifinals.   How It Works The league's seven teams will compete in a fourteen-game group play format to determine seeding for the following week’s single-elimination tournament.   Author's Note:  Here's an update on what has happened since the MLL made the decision to suspend operations for the Launch, the Ohio machine and the Charlotte Hounds.  We all hope a potential owner will step up and bring MLL back to the area.  I have not heard any indications at this point that South Florida is anywhere on the radar for the new PLL.  If this turns out to be it for the long run, there's PLENTY of people I need to acknowledge and thank for their efforts over the years.  I will probably miss a few and apologize for that in advance. Brian Clinton always had my back on doing what I needed to do.  Heather Huntemann was just as helpful over the years and always fun to talk to.  The rest of the front office staff never hesitated to help FLN do their jobs.  I'll miss tal...

Speculating About the MLL Press Release This Morning

I decided to take a deconstruction effort at the announcement this morning from MLL about the restructuring of the league . . . this is solely my opinion and analysis, not FLN's per se.   When you look at this press release in its’ entirety there are some interesting speculations to make: Clearly, this is a grab of control from the old guard of the league to the new guard.  The founding fathers of Jim Davis, Jake Steinfeld, Dave Morrow and Dave Gross have had their final decision-making authority taken away (Morrow pretty much no longer has been active anyhow but Dave Gross, in particular, is the most affected in my opinion).  Jim Davis has been a God-send over the years financially.  The number of the amount of money he personally sank into the league is staggering, to...

MLL Commissioner Sandy Brown’s Letter to Florida Launch Fans

I received this in my email this morning and I assume it went to all recipients on the Florida Launch email list:   Dear Fans, I would like to update you on some meaningful developments in MLL. On Friday, March 22, our MLL team owners met in Boston to discuss the growth of our league. The meeting produced two important outcomes. First, the owners agreed to adopt a one team, one owner strategy. Second, effective immediately, MLL has reacquired all linear, digital and social media rights. The impact of these decisions will lay a path for growth for the league not felt since MLL’s inception almost 20 years ago. At the same time, there will be a reorganization of the MLL team structure. The new structure to which I refer, will mean that certain teams will be ...

Author's Note:  There is a LOT of read between the lines info here and I'll put up an attempt at deconstructing this today   via MLL web site   League Restructuring to Focus on Expanding in Strategic Markets. Media Rights Reacquired to Pursue Broader Distribution Deal for Fans, Players and Sponsor   Boston, MA, April 1, 2019 - - As part of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) strategic plan to transform the 19-year property, the league announced that it will restructure to focus on expansion in strategic markets and has reacquired its media rights in an effort to seek a broadcast partner with broader reach for its fans, players and sponsors MLL ownership unanimously agreed on a strategy which limits one team per owner and will restructure the organization to fo...

Breaking: MLL Contraction to be Announced Monday Morning; Ohio, Charlotte and Florida Get the Axe . . .

Across The LAX World, Featured Posts, Florida Lacrosse News, Florida Launch, Launch/MLL/NLL/Women's Pro, MLL Around The League
FLN has learned from multiple sources that Major League Lacrosse will announce a major contraction of the league and that the 3 teams that will be folded are the Ohio Machine, the MLL 2017 Champions, the Charlotte Hounds and the Florida Launch.  This is shocking in its’ timing in that the MLL College draft was held only weeks ago, and that was followed by the annual second Supplemental Draft. The timing of this is very unusual since the Launch have gone through so much effort to relocate from a difficult lease situation at FAU to a facility that greatly reduces cost and gives the team extra revenue opportunities with event planning. The Ohio Machine situation will carry its’ own stadium issue.  Fortress Obetz was built by the city of Obetz, Ohio to be a multi-use facility, ...

Author's note:  Thanks to Commissioner Brown for answering our submitted questions!  MLL has undergone a strategic review and is entering its' 19th season, starting in late May, with the Launch opening May 31st at home against the Atlanta Blaze in their new facility at Central Broward Regional Park.   Question 1 FLN: It’s one year into your position and it certainly has been an adventurous and busy one to say the least.  Could you give us a summary of the issues you’ve had to deal with over the course of the year as well as some of the changes we will see this upcoming season? Commissioner Brown:  I had to quickly learn to whole landscape of the league – the teams, the personnel, and the league culture. MLL has had 20 years of history, and I needed to absorb all of that so...
