Breaking: Samantha MacCurdy Out as STA Women’s Coach

FHSAA, Florida Lacrosse News, High School, Southeast Girls, Women's Lacrosse
FLN has learned that Samantha MacCurdy, who led the St. Thomas Aquinas Girl's team to the state championship game this season, has been relieved of her position this morning. The decision did not go unnoticed and FLN has learned that a number of parents are looking to try to get STA Athletic Director George Smith to reconsider.     We will continue to seek out more on this in the coming days and will update here if anything else is learned.  Obviously a situation like this where a coach who achieved a championship berth is let go during the summer opens eyes.

We've finally come down to the wire STA vs LHP on the Boys' side and STA versus Bishop Moore on the Girls' side Ft. Lauderdale versus Orlando Spring break versus Mickey Okay, I'll cut that short . . .   The crowds in Jupiter were enormous yesterday.  Not sure about the ticket count but it had to be at least 1,500 at the peak. Because it is a Friday at noon start there's a tendency for the early game fans to not stick around for the whole day. Kind of a shame actually. Where else do you get this type of entertainment for this long for so little money? Became a fan of the sport, not just the team!   The four games were all entertaining and only one of them was a blow out.  And that one revealed a heck of an offense, one that I thought w...

photo via Jim Rassol for the Sun-Sentinel   Excerpt: Down two goals with less than eight minutes to play, St. Thomas Aquinas didn’t panic. Just a week earlier, the Raiders’ girls lacrosse team found itself in a similar predicament, trailing American Heritage-Delray by three goals in the second half. St. Thomas rallied to force overtime and beat the Stallions in the regional finals. Playing in their first state semifinal Friday against Naples Barron Collier, the Raiders needed a spark once again to keep their dream season alive on a sweltering, sunny day at Jupiter High School. Once again, St. Thomas wouldn’t be denied. Trailing 9-7 with 7:30 left, St. Thomas scored the final five goals in the contest to knock off the Cougars, 12-9, and advance to Saturday’s state ...

Welcome to the FLN coverage of the Final Four in Jupiter!   Wea re waiting for the first game, which will be the Girl's matchup of Barron Collier and St. Thomas Aquinas! It is very warm and humid today and it will likely have an effect given how cool the spring has been so far. A turf field will also contribute to the humidity.   STA with the opening draw Beekhuizen at 24:00 left in the first half for the 1-0 STA lead off the penalty free position BC gets the next faceoff but turns it over on the fast break Beekhuizen again presses the issue and draws the whistle STA over the net Kelly from Preston at 21:48 to make it 2-0   STA on the draw Beekhuizen again on the freeposition at 21:01 for 3-0 and BC needs to turn momentum ...

But after six consecutive state tournament losses to state power Vero Beach, that frustrating history of falling to the same nemesis, in fact, became history. Falling behind early in the first half, the Cougars stormed back and held on for a stunning 9-7 upset of Vero Beach in the third-round play-in game Friday night at Billy Livings Field at the Citrus Bowl. “I’ve only been around for three years, but I know the history between Vero Beach and Barron Collier, how many times they’ve bee...

Just got home from the Benjamin 10-4 win over a game Barron Collier squad playing without star attackman Connor McGraw. Full game recap tomorrow.   Down in Ft. Lauderdale it looks like STA has pulled awy from Gulliver in the third quarter and now leads 8-2, so it looks like we get the rematch from last year's incredible semifinal.   Up in Orlando it was an easy win for LHP over Berkeley Prep 20-4. Seth Austin was on hand and will write up hopefully before he gets on a plane tomorrow.   Also in that area it was Lake Mary holding on for the 9-8 win over visiting Bolles, setting up the rematch of the 2015 semifinals game with LHP.   Not too much surprise here . . .   BUT   On the Girls side we have two upsets in...
