Week 2 is done, but Covid issues still wreck havoc with a few top schools . . . as has FHSAA Winter Sport Final Four runs.Down my way, we now have Jupiter, Oxbridge, SJP II and Boca Raton on the sidelines with contact tracing issues.  I hate to bring politics into it but funny how they all have one thing in common, they reside in the County that made the hanging chad famous . . .We had some fabulous games around the state last week and we already are starting to see some separation between legit title contenders and those lacking a little. We've seen some crazy last minute schedule changes too.Top program St. Thomas Aquinas, having lost four games already, made a last minute decision to travel to Naples yesterday to play Community School of Naples.  It was their FI...

One week in the books.A few bad calls in the Preseason Poll.Lacrosse has truly started . . . As I go through each week you will notice some changes to format if you've been a long-time reader.  As I approach Medicare-age (well, not quite yet but too close for my comfort) I have to admit I've slowed down a bit on game coverage and other items, but thankfully for the fans around the state we've seen other sources pop up to supplement my coverage and they are doing a great job with their locations and market niches.  As the season goes on I'll be highlighting one per week for those who do not know they exist.  It's an exciting aspect of the growth of the sport in the state, and it's on both sides, Boys and Girls coverage!  FLN feels like a proud Dad that this is...

What a year that has passed by . . . for the first time the playing of the sport took a back seat to outside the lines. One of the questions on my Preseason Questionnaire I send to coaches includes "What Are The Games You Are Really Looking Forward To This Season?".  In a normal year I'll either get something like 3 names, with a rivalry as number one.  Or I might get something like 'all of them' or a variation of it.This year, the overwhelming one is "Any, we learned last year how precious each game is".In lacrosse AND in life.  Usually I deal with one or two bad stories a year.  A death or a catastrophic injury.  This past 12+ months they just kept coming and NONE of them were Covid-related.  Add the effect of that on top and you have the reason why so many of us just are thankful w...

We transition to a new sponsor for the FLN Polls this season!  Prospects Lacrosse Inc. is sponsoring a new event for Florida school teams on an invitational basis as a showcase for college coaches to attend.  The Florida event is scheduled for May 23rd-24th in Vero Beach.LINK No change at the top this week.  SA gliding, PV riding . . . to Baltimore.  Where they gave a great showing against nationally-ranked Gilman, and were twisted into a pretzel by nationally-ranked Boys' Latin.  SA is about to wade into their own out-of-state gauntlet on Wednesday as Academy New Church of Pa. comes to town.  Academy lost one game last year, by one goal to Malvern Prep, and anyone who knows Pennsylvania knows what that means.  They follow with Vandergrift of Texas, the tradition...

Oh Lord.Gentlemen, start your engines!!! https://youtu.be/TLWr8gTAFSUHmm, a Florida kid managed to make it into this one . . . TWICE.  And Joe Seider's goal viewed from behind is the best advertisement for the sport I know of.Wow, what a bunch of...
