  via Tampa press release   TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team has announced captains for the 2019 season. Seniors Abby Coccagna, Caroline Forester, and Allie Popelar, along with sole junior Claire Swanson will guide the Spartans for the upcoming season. Coccagna, a defender from Baltimore, Md. was stalwart on defense just a season ago posting 36 ground balls while ranking second on the team with 21 caused turnovers. The 5-6 senior leads by example and was named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times, in addition to being an All-Sunshine State Conference Second-Team selection her sophomore season.   via Tampa press release   The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team has officially hired two new assistant coaches, Caili Guilday and Dina Cifelli. Guilday, a former women's lacrosse player at the University of Tampa graduated in December of 2016. Since graduating from UT, she has coached lacrosse at the various levels from youth to college. Most recently, she acted as the Interim Head Coach at Millersville University where she had previously assisted. Her primary responsibilities at Millersville included being the Defensive Coordinator and Goalie Coach for the Marauders.   via UT press release   TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa has announced that women's lacrosse student-athlete Megan Sanchez is the 2018 recipient of the Freddie Solomon Community Service Award, which has been presented annually since 2013. A three-year letterwinner for the University of Tampa women's lacrosse program, Sanchez made an impact in the community while also being a standout student who earned her college degree in less than four years. Among her community outreach was nearly 300 volunteer hours at Tampa General Hospital. During these hours, she assisted with child life (opening the playroom, going to patients room), the rehabilitation center (working with traumatic brain injury patients and geriatrics), inpatient/acute rehab (pediatrics) and outpati

  via the IWLCA web site   2018 IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll – May 29, 2018   James Madison University (22-1) claimed the number one ranking in the final Division I Coaches Poll of the season, collecting all 25 first-place votes after winning their first NCAA Championship 16-15 over Boston College. The Eagles (22-2) finish the season ranked second and are followed by Maryland (20-2), North Carolina (17-4), and Stony Brook (20-1) to round out the top five. Florida (17-4) and Navy (18-4) finish the season tied for sixth in the poll. Northwestern (15-6) moves up to eighth in the final rankings, Towson (16-5) finishes in ninth, and Princeton (13-6) moves into the top ten. The only new entry to the poll is Richmond, who received votes for the first time this season

  via SportsLowdown.com   Panthers Trounce Tampa in SSC Semifinal   Excerpt: The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team picked up their 16th win of the season on Friday, beating the Tampa Spartans 20-8 in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in Lakeland, Florida. The victory extends the school record for wins in a season for the program. The Panthers (16-1) took 37 shots in this game, 32 of them were on goal. They held a 25-12 advantage in ground balls while doubling up the Spartans in draw controls, 20-10. FIT was successful on 12-of-15 clears, while Tampa went 12-for-18.
