via press release – photo via JU web site   JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – Nine different Dolphins scored in Jacksonville University’s (3-4) dominating 18-8 victory over Wagner (2-6) Saturday at a sunny D.B. Milne Field. Danielle Della Rocca scored five and Courtney Valdez drilled in four. First Half Jacksonville raced out to an early eight-goal lead with Jaime Chapman scoring just 57 seconds into the game and Della Rocca scoring a straight hat trick. Valdez netted a pair sandwiched around Abby Remenapp and Della Rocca scores before Wagner could make a dent in the scoreboard. The Seahawks scored two of their three goals in the period back-to-back on shots from Anna Belle Reilly and Rachel St. Pierre, the latter at 12:51 remaining. Valdez scored another in-between a pair from MacEllen McDonough. Sydney Matthews started as the Dolphin netminder and would receive the win. Second Half The teams traded goals with Della Rocca squeezing in her game-high fifth and Heidi Colcord answering for the visitors from Staten Island, N.Y at the 28:00 mark. Over seven minutes expired before either team scored when the Dolphins started a trio of scores from Kasey Stevens, Valdez, and Parker Day. Wagner scored four more times in the frame, while JU added to its lead on goals from Ashtyn Hiron, Jody Julmice, and McDonough who completed the hat trick and JU’s final goal at 3:41. Quote “I thought we had some good contributions from a variety of players. We gave our bench some real quality minutes to go out and compete against another Division 1 team. We are developing the depth that we need for a long conference run. Della Rocca and Courtney Valdez together were a nice group. Erica Brager was solid in the midfield and on defense. There is some things to shore up before Old Dominion but overall we have had a good non-conference experience and battled hard in all of our games. Now it’s time for the second season to start and there is a lot to look forward to.”- JU Head Coach Mindy McCord Scoops Jacksonville picked up 17 ground balls while Wagner collected 13. The Dolphins won 16 of 27 draw controls, and outshot the opposition 42-13. Wagner went 9-14 on clears and JU was 13-13. Jacksonville was 7-11 on free-position shots. Jacksonville opens ASUN Conference play on the road at Old Dominion on Mar. 24.
