The Panthers showed few nerves in their season opener, racing out to a large halftime lead and then holding off a late Coker rally to earn the victory. The win is also special to head coach Mark Penn as it is his first as a college head coach, and it came in his first ever game at the collegiate level. FIT Men: Mark Penn Releases 2019 Men’s Lacrosse Schedule

  via FIT press release   Panthers' season opener set for Feb. 10 at Coker College MELBOURNE, Fla. – Head men's lacrosse coach Mark Penn is excited to announce Florida Tech's 2019 schedule for his first season at the helm of the program. The slate includes five home games at Panther Field, located at the F. W. Olin Sports Complex, as well four contests with opponents positioned in the 2019 Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Top-25 Poll. SSC members, Tampa (No. 5), Saint Leo (No. 10) and Lynn (No. 19), are ranked in the preseason poll. Florida Tech is receiving votes in the ranking along with Rollins College and Florida Southern College. It took one week for the school to find his replacement and they didn’t have to look far, as assistant coach Mark Penn was promoted to the position. “Coach Mac and I are pretty close off the field as far as our personal lives, and I knew what he was going through because we shared a lot of it together just in conversation and in prayer together,” said Penn. “I had been preparing for a bit that this possibility could arise and was in-step with coach Mac the whole way, in the sense that we were kind of going through it all together.”

McAleavey completed his seventh season at the helm of the program in 2017-18. Mark Penn has been named the acting head coach for the men's lacrosse program. Penn has served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Panthers for the past five years. McAleavey was named Florida Tech's first men's lacrosse head coach on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. The program played its inaugural game on Feb. 14, 2012, against Saint Leo.   via FIT press release   Junior midfielder becomes third All-American selection in program history   MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech's Logan Sweeney has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Sweeney is the third player in men's lacrosse program history to collect All-American honors. The junior midfielder joins Addison Abramson and Grant Hughes who earned All-American laurels following the 2017 season. Sweeney, who garnered his second straight First Team All-Sunshine State Conference nod this season, led Florida Tech in scoring with a career-high 39 points on 27 goals and 12 assists.
