Florida Southern Women: Defending National Champion Women’s Lacrosse Releases 2017 Schedule

via press release – photo via FSC web site   LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse will begin its NCAA Division II national championship defense at home on Feb. 16, as head coach Kara Reber released her team’s 2017 schedule on Wednesday. The 2017 slate features 19 contests, including 12 home games in the team’s final season at Bryant Stadium. Florida Southern will move to the new, on-campus Barnett Athletic Complex for the 2018 campaign. The Moccasins’ 2017 schedule features a rematch of the 2016 national championship match as Adelphi visits Lakeland on Feb. 21. Prior to the highly-anticipated rematch, the Mocs will square off against Scotland’s senior women’s national team in an exhibition on Feb. 13, and open the regular season against Grand Valley State on Feb. 16. Florida Southern’s schedule includes contests against four teams that appeared in last year’s NCAA Tournament, including Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins, who the Mocs eliminated in the quarterfinals, and Lindenwood, which lost to Florida Southern in the national semifinals. Grand Valley State and Queens (NC), which advanced to the quarterfinals last year, are the other two squads that appeared in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Mocs will travel to Lindenwood on Feb. 26, and will face Rollins at home on April 11. The contest against Queens is slated for March 11 in Charlotte, NC. FSC’s home slate also includes non-conference games against Gannon (March 1), Fort Lewis (March 6), West Virginia Wesleyan (March 6), Bloomsburg (March 13), IUP (March 16), and Seton Hill (March 18), and an SSC match with Florida Tech (April 1). The Moccasins will play non-conference road contests at McKendree (Feb. 24), Lindenwood (Feb. 25), Young Harris (March 9), and Limestone (April 22). Florida Southern will face SSC foes Saint Leo (March 25) and Tampa (April 8) on the road, as well as play Rockhurst (Feb. 24) in a neutral-site contest at McKendree. A total of seven of Florida Southern’s regular-season opponents finished the 2016 campaign ranked among the top 20 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.
