However, the Mocs had to make a late comeback in regulation to force overtime, and Lucas Claude found the back of the net with 44 seconds to go in the extra period to lift Florida Southern to victory. Claude and Carson Wallace each scored three times, with Wallace tallying the game-tying goal with 3:38 to go in regulation and Claude scoring the game-winner on overtime. The Crusaders (4-0) seemed to have an answer for everything the Moccasins (0-1) threw at them, answering each Florida Southern goal with multiple goals of their own. The Mocs were able to keep the score close throughout the early stages of the first quarter. But a 4-0 run by Belmont Abbey midway through the opening period helped the Crusaders grab a 5-1 lead, and Florida Southern never got closer than three the rest of the way. Longtime lacrosse coaches Mark Frey and Bill Shatz were named as assistant coaches for the Moccasins on Wednesday. The duo has more than 50 years of combined experience in lacrosse as former college players and coaches at the high school, college and club levels. Frey most recently coached at Cleveland State, while Shatz most recently served as Director of Lacrosse at IMG Academy. In addition to the eight home contests, the schedule is also filled with matchups against some of the top NCAA Division II men's lacrosse teams in the nation. Florida Southern's opponents for the 2018 campaign include three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, four conference champions and five squads that finished 2017 ranked inside the USILA Top 20. Maccario will serve as an assistant coach after spending three seasons as a graduate assistant coach at DeSales University in Pennsylvania. "Matt brings a great background as a defensive coach to our program at Florida Southern," said Ward. "He has the proven ability to develop an effective defensive unit at the Division III level as a coach and was a top defenseman at the Division II level as a player. The 76th annual all-star game will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26, at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on the campus of Providence College in Rhode Island. Lalli is one of just 70 players from across the nation to earn an all-star nod, and will play for the South all-stars under the direction of Florida Southern head coach Marty Ward.
