BOX SCORE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team prevailed in an intense Top 25 battle against Saint Anselm at the ERAU Lacrosse Field on Friday afternoon as the 16th-ranked Eagles defeated the 21st-ranked Hawks 14-10. Both teams were undefeated heading into Friday’s contest, and in the end, it was the Eagles who kept their record unblemished at 9-0, while the Hawks fall to 3-1 on the year.

Goals were at a premium in a game that was marked by strong defense on both sides. After a scoreless first five minutes of play, Sallie Squire got on the board first for the Eagles, but Lexi Palmisano tied the score at 1-1 with 7:19 left in the first. Both teams added another goal to their respective tallies over the next six minutes, but Murphy McDonough’s goal with 37 seconds left gave the Eagles a 3-2 edge after the first quarter.

Like the first 15 minutes of play, the second quarter yielded only five goals, but the Blue and Gold dominated the scoring, tallying four of the five to widen the gap to 7-3 at the half.

The Hawks came out firing to start the third quarter. Two quick goals within the first two minutes prompted a quick timeout by Embry-Riddle. Coming out of the timeout, the Eagles dominated the possession over the next five minutes, but despite having six shots during that stretch, the Eagles were unable to find another goal.

After surviving the Eagle onslaught, the Hawks scored their third goal of the frame and with 6:39 remaining in the quarter, Samantha Rivet scored her only goal of the day to tie the score at 7-7.

The score remained knotted until Elizabeth Ninesling’s free position goal with 1:04 left and Tori Lammes’ second goal of the season pushed the Eagle lead to 9-7 heading into the final period.

The ERAU offense came out with a renewed sense of determination to start the fourth, scoring four times in the first five minutes. McDonough started things off with a goal in the 48th minute, and subsequent scores by Ninesling, Aliza Garofalo and Squire put the Eagles ahead by six, 13-7.

The Hawks managed to score three goals late, but while they were able to close the gap, they couldn’t catch up to the Eagles who secured their seventh home victory of 2022.

Ninesling led ERAU with four goals, while Squire and McDonough finished with three each, and Garofalo chipped in two of her own.

Freshman goalkeeper Aubrey Fixen grabbed six saves and now owns the Eagles’ record for single-season wins.

The Eagles play the first of two road games at 4 p.m. on March 23 when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee to take on Lee.
