He led all MLL players in goals in 2017 and was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week on two occasions. Despite only playing in 10 games, the Hofstra product finished the year tied for the 10th-most points in the league (46). Byrne recorded his second seven-goal game of the year on Aug. 3 against Denver to break the rookie scoring record previously held by Kieran McArdle. FLN has learned that Samantha MacCurdy, who led the St. Thomas Aquinas Girl's team to the state championship game this season, has been relieved of her position this morning. The decision did not go unnoticed and FLN has learned that a number of parents are looking to try to get STA Athletic Director George Smith to reconsider. We will continue to seek out more on this in the coming days and will update here if anything else is learned. Obviously a situation like this where a coach who achieved a championship berth is let go during the summer opens eyes.
via the Launch web site and MLL press release Florida Launch attackman Kieran McArdle was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14. Florida’s 18-17 win over the Cannons on Saturday night clinched the franchise’s first ever trip to the MLL postseason. McArdle, 25, matched his season high with eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) in Florida’s win. After the Launch surrendered a 10-goal lead, McArdle scored the game-tying goal 7:55 into the fourth quarter. Two minutes later, he threaded a pass to teammate Nick Mariano, who scored the game-winning goal and cemented the win. McArdle leads the Launch with 46 points on the season and is tied for the second-most points in the league despite appearing in only 10 games. His 32 goals are tied for the third-most in MLL
via the Launch web site Author's Note: The Launch are locked into the 3rd place finish we predicted last week after the results of the last weekend around the league. The team will be travelling to either Ohio or Denver for the semifinal game. If Ohio loses Saturday it means they will host the Launch and the same occurs if both Denver and Ohio win. If Ohio wins and Denver loses we will be travelling to Denver. Frankly, if Denver loses I'd rather be going there to play the semifinal since Denver has struggled some more down the stretch than Ohio has.
