South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse Honors Season’s Best

South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse Honors Season’s Best

Saturday night FAU's stadium served not only as the site of a thrilling Florida Launch come from behind 15-14 win over the The New York Lizards, but also as the host for this year's South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse awards banquet.  As far as I am concerned, every chapter in the state should try to replicate this great way to celebrate its season, whether locally or better yet, coordinated with a trip to Boca Raton for the night when the Launch is in town.  The staff at the Launch, headed by Brian and Don Clinton, Michael Zeff and others put on a terrific evening and are doing a ton of community outreach (check out the photos at the bottom of this article to see an example).  The Launch management is building a great franchise. Thank you to everyone, including emcees Joe Chiarella, E
US Lacrosse Grants South Florida Chapter an 11th All American – Griffin Bowie of Benjamin Named AA!

US Lacrosse Grants South Florida Chapter an 11th All American – Griffin Bowie of Benjamin Named AA!

FHSAA, Florida Lacrosse News, High School, Men's Lacrosse, Southeast Boys
via the South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse   US Lacrosse has granted the South Florida Chapter an 11th All American as they rounded up to the next whole number as the number of schools in the South Florida chapter increased to 65.  There exists a ratio of 1 All American for every 6 schools in your Chapter area and there were a few new programs added this season, bumping up the number to 11 total. The South Florida Chapter has granted the award to Griffin Bowie, as he finished with the most votes of those not nominated during the 10-man balloting. FLN certainly supports the decision, both by the national entity and the South Florida Chapter, as Griffin was certainly deserving after his performance this season, so congratulations to Griffin for this achievement!

Benjamin’s Robert Jacobs Sets School Records at Kenyon

That's Benjamin senior Robert Jacobs scoring the winning goal in overtime April 26, 2013 against Vero Beach in the FHSAA playoffs.  Four years later, Robert capped off an honored career at Kenyon College in style in his last game for the Lords.  Below is the school's press release: HIRAM, Ohio – Robert Jacobs broke a 54-year-old record and the Kenyon men's lacrosse team set a new standard for most goals scored and points totaled during Saturday's 36-9 road victory at Hiram College. In his final game, Jacobs tallied six goals and eight assists for 14 points. That mark bested Bill Hylton's 13-point effort against University of Mount Union on May 5, 1963. Jacobs' assist total also tied for the third-highest single-game effort. Furthermore, Jacobs finished

Thanks to Lisa Erdmann for the pictures!   It gets harder each year for me to come up with original adjectives for this game. #4 and #5 meeting in a district final AGAIN. I really need to come up with a good nickname for this rivalry.  Soccer uses the term Derby.  Somehow Palm Beach Revolution Derby didn't roll off the tongue and neither does Military Trail Mayhem, although that comes closer.  The Shane and Danny Show sounds too much like a late afternoon Lifetime Channel entry. But then I had a remembrance of a Fox Sports effort called The Best Damn Sports Show Period . . . Bingo! For now on, until proven otherwise, this game will be known as The Best Damn District Final Period.     And that's not all the historical references for the night

District 17 - Riverview hosts Riverview-Sarasota vs ODA-Sarasota Cardinal Mooney vs St. Stephens Episcopal It will be an R-S versus CM final and they split the two regular season games, both winning on the road.  When that happens it likely repeats itself so look for CM to sneak out a win to advance.  The only thing that gives me pause is that CM lost 5 of their last 8 games to finish the season against a tough schedule and they might be worn down.   District 18 - Canterbury hosts Bishop Verot vs Ft. Myers Canterbury vs Estero This is set up for a possible upset.  BV has long owned this district but has to face a Ft. Myers team in the first round that gave them fits at home while Estero lost big to Canterbury before.  Ft. Myers also took Canterbury do
