Â JU splits two-game West Coast road trip Â Eugene, Ore.- Freshman Morgan Derner scored a career-high four goals but it wasn't enough as the JU women's lacrosse team fell, 15-9, to the University of Oregon at Pape' Field on Sunday afternoon. Kaitlin Stewart and Ali Hoffman each scored two goals for the Dolphins, yet JU came away with a split off a two-game West Coast trip in falling to 3-2.Â Alex Breiner tallied four goals for the Ducks as Oregon improved to 2-1. The Ducks surged to an 11-3 halftime lead before JU mounted a second-half comeback. JU scored four of the final five goals before the final horn, with Hoffman scoring her pair less than two minutes apart. The Dolphins have out-scored opponents, 34-21, in the second half this season. Kaylee Sills scored 4 goals and assisted on one other as the Hagerty Huskies rolled to a 14-2 victory over nearby Lake Howell. Cindy Cooper had a solid game for the silver Eagles netting two of the Lake Howell goals. The Huskies will play at Winter Springs next Wednesday in their first district match-up. Lake Howell travels to Lake Nona on Tuesday.
The Wekiva girls Lacrosse team experienced their first win on Thursday as they traveled to All Saints Academy in Winter Haven.Â The girls are 1-1 on the season.Â This match-up was a reunion of sorts as All Saints ended theÂ Wekiva season in 2010Â with a one goal difference.Â The girls are new to the sport and have tried very hard during the past three weeks to overcome their limitation in experience.Â This night was looking as though All Saints had an edge as they used skill and determination to break through the young defenses of theÂ Wekiva squad.Â Going into theÂ half,Â Wekiva was behind by 3 goals and as the 2nd half was well underway,Â Wekiva soon found themselves behind by 5 going into the 13th minute of 25.Â Â Wekiva began a recharge and came within two goals with less tha
Â Jacksonville, Fla.- A cross-country flight will take the Dolphins to Eugene, Ore. as the JU women's lacrosse team will face Fresno State and Oregon in back-to-back days to jump-start the schedule's road portion. The Dolphins will be looking to sustain momentum after going 2-1 on a season-opening three-game homestand. JU defeated Denver in its previous game and will face a Fresno State squad still looking for its first win since launching the program in 2009.Â That contest will be on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern time. The Bulldogs (0-2) will be looking to snap a 30-game losing streak and shrug off two blowout losses to Stanford and UC Davis, respectively. Fresno State has been out-scored, 42-9, this season.Â Those numbers could be encouraging for a Dolphins offense averaging 12.
