As part of my brutal job covering lacrosse here in the Sunshine State I had to spend a day on the beach at Siesta Key covering the inaugural World Lacrosse Beach Festival.  But, for you the reader, I suffer. The Beach Festival served as a lunch pad for Casey Powell's new SPEED Lacrosse™ format. This modified format is played on a 20 x 40 yard "court" and is played 3 on 3 with small goals and no goalie.  There are no pads or helmets, just a stick and a soft "SPEED" ball.  Over 200 players participated in the event which included age groups for boys and girls from age 9 through 18. Late in July, 46 of the best boys and girls lacrosse teams from across the country converged in Richmond, Virginia for the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships.  It was a phenomenal event that allowed some of the best teenage athletes in the nation to showcase their talents and compete for a championship.  I have heard nothing but praise for the event from parents, players, and coaches alike. Two Florida teams, the boys of the Swashbucklers program and girls from Florida Select, competed in Richmond, allowing the players to experience a level of competition that you can't find anywhere else. Both teams come from first class organizations that consistently create top level Florida talent.  The Swashbucklers are based in South Florida but draw players from as far north as the Dr. Philli

I thoroughly enjoyed the 7v7 format at the Heatwave tournament in Flagler Beach and the tournament in general was first class thanks to LaxLife Events and sponsor STX.  It was loads of fun and I was able to see some great talent.  Below I’ve highlighted some of the players that impressed me with their play. Unfortunately, I was not able to see all the teams play, so I know I missed some other great players.  Still, congratulations to these girls for a great weekend! Here are ten players who stood out to this FLN writer in no particular order.
