photo via StAugustine.Com and Gary McCullogh   The best lacrosse story of the season ended with Bartram Trail defeating the long-time FHSAA defending champion Vero Beach 8-7 in OT yesterday afternoon as Alexis Marcionette scored the game winner with 7 seconds left in the first overtime period. For those, including me, who aren't as attuned to the Girls season we need to take a step back and look what was accomplished here. Last year Bartram's district rival, Ponte Vedra, went to the FHSAA final, losing to Vero by a couple of goals and PV was returning much of their starting lineup.  During the season PV went 14-3, with the losses to #1 ranked McDonogh (Md), Walton (GA.) and a one goal loss to Lake Highland Prep.  The regular season win over Bartram Trail was by 21-14.  A f

A great look at the second Girls' semifinal game!   Excerpt: In its second varsity season, American Heritage-Delray shocked the Florida lacrosse community, reaching states with a roster made up mostly of 8th graders, freshmen and sophomores. On Friday, the upstart Stallions looked to pull off another stunner in the FHSAA semifinals in Jupiter against juggernaut Vero Beach — winner of 10 consecutive state championships. Instead, Heritage's rapid ascent came to an end as the Stallions fell to the Fighting Indians 12-6 at Velocity Credit Union Stadium at Jupiter High School. "You have to play to almost near perfection with a team like [Vero Beach]," American Heritage-Delray coach John McClain said. "We hustled our brains off — we were in the game. A couple of

I'll be writing up the game recaps of the finals later today, but what a great two days!   First a big thank you to the FHSAA for bringing the games down to the Southeast for the first time! Jupiter Community High School and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission partnered to bring the FHSAA Lacrosse Championships to Palm Beach County. A great thanks to the volunteers were from the JHS Boys and Girls Lacrosse teams, the JHS football team, the Booster Club, JTAA and the Town of Jupiter. This was truly a team and community effort. And boy did you attend!  Nearly 1,500 the first day and probably not much less the next when you combine the two separate events.  And a number of kids participating in the Saturday morning clinic!  Loud cheers, engaged crowds, tremor

Such an interesting matchup as we get the long-time champs in Vero against the upstart Stallions! Vero with the opening draw And the first goal for #9 in the first minute of the game Heritage gets the second draw Only one senior and three juniors on AH-D Turnover Vero's size advantage is very apparent #2 off the restart to make it 2-0 with 22 minutes left Vero with the draw Shjot wideHeritage with the steal #19 from #15 and AH-D is on the board with 18:37 left.  2-1!   Vero wins the draw again Open look in front but the shot is wide Turnover after an official conference but on the ride AH-D turns it over right in front and Vero makes it 3-1 Another Vero win on a procedure call Big save by AH-D goalie But a turnover and a re

A few technical difficulties but we are now up and running. Olympia and Bartram Trail will kick this one off Pretty warm day for the game and the field will be hot.  Conditioning will play a factor. Olympia with the first possession, a lengthy one but they were stoned on the doorstep on the first possession and Bartram turns them over. Bartram with the first goal about 4 minutes in to the game. Just 20 seconds later Olympia with the tying goal Olympia with all 3 faceoff wins   Olympia with four whistled violations already Collision at the 35 yard line, both okay Big save off the fast break by Bartram goalie Bartram holds on defense and goes down but Olympia goalie stones the attack near the crease Bartram with the hard ride and steal,
