First Ever South County Middle School Cup!

Thanks to Steve Finver for providing the information and the picture!   One of the issues the lacrosse community has faced lately is how to cope with the enormous increase in the playing population and the logistical challenges that can provide. One such issue is the availability of referees to work the games.  Before the season started this year there was a decent possibility that the Middle School season in the Boca Raton area might have to be cancelled because they couldn’t count on enough referees being available.  But the area’s officials stepped up to the plate and found a way to provide enough (keep that in mind the next time you want to yell out at a game) to allow the season to be played.  And one good idea led to another and this event was born. Hopefully it will remain a staple of the local scene and other areas of the state can learn from the efforts and hold similar events in future seasons!  Great job by the local officials and the Boca Jets Lacrosse organization.  Once again the lacrosse community comes through to make the game better for the kids.
The future of high school lacrosse is more exciting than ever as evidenced by the talent demonstrated in the first ever South County Middle School Cup. Sponsored by the perennial powerhouse program Boca Jets Lacrosse the Cup featured teams representing the four middle school lacrosse programs from Boca Raton. “These middle school players are so talented and represent the future of lacrosse in this area”, said Boca Jets Lacrosse President Steve Finver. Finver also noted “It was our honor to sponsor this event and we are so excited to continue to help promote the sport of lacrosse throughout South Florida”. The tournament featured Middle Schhol teams representing: Omni, Eagles Landing, Loggers Run and Boca Middle. Boca Jets Lacrosse VP of Operations Jim Gottlieb remarked “What an unbelievable night of lacrosse. I was thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event”. The first round featured victories by Omni over Eagles Landing 8-3 and Boca Middle defeating Loggers Run 13-7. This set up a showdown between previously undefeated Omni and Boca Middle. In a close knit contest Boca Middle shocked everyone by winning the Championship game 8-6. Gottlieb said “What an incredible tournament with an outcome no one could have predicted”.
