When FSU opens their season next Saturday against Auburn, they will be under the direction of new head coach, Matt Doyle.  Doyle attended Elmont Memorial High School in Long Island where he was a three sport athlete; lettering in lacrosse, football and basketball.  During his lacrosse career at Elmont, he was among the all-time leading scorers in Nassau County history.

Matt Doyle begins his first season as head coach at FSU
Doyle went on to play at Syracuse University from 1993-1997, during which time he helped lead the Orange to 2 National Championships.  He was named an All-American in 1994. According to Roy Simmons III (head of lacrosse operations at Syracuse), “Matt could have been one of the very best to play at SU, if it weren’t for his injuries.” For the past 16 years, Doyle has been involved in coaching and teaching all levels of youth lacrosse.  He has also worked one-on-one with numerous high school and college players, helping them to reach their individual goals. “Excited and intrigued are the 2 words I would use to best describe how I feel about taking over the FSU program.  I’m still in the process of taking it all in.  In New York, college sports are a distant 2nd to professional sports; but here in Florida it’s all about college athletics.  FSU is a special school; when you’re around campus you can’t help but feel positive. Although there is a lot of work to be done, I hope to make FSU Lacrosse something special that the University, Alumni and Boosters will be proud of.” Coach Doyle adds, “My philosophy of coaching is repetitiveness – make the guys understand and simplify as much as possible. We will try to put the player in the best situation, find his strength and utilize it, locate his weakness and work it to death to make it better. My expectations for this 2014 team are that we will be good and we will contend.  We are extremely young at every position, and the freshmen are way ahead of schedule.  We have veterans spread around as well which makes for a good mix.  It’s truly a great group of kids and I honestly enjoy coaching them.” FSU Men’s Lacrosse will be holding a fundraiser at Madison Social (Collegetown) on Sunday, February 16 at 12 noon.  Over 30 items, including FSU Lacrosse items, will be up for auction.  There will be free appetizers and a chance to meet the FSU Men’s Lacrosse Coaches, Captains and Players.  If you are interested in attending or sponsoring the fundraiser, please contact Coach Doyle at CoachDoyle@fsulacrosse.com.
