Nexstar Lacrosse Showcase Brings Coaches Who Recruit Florida Players- Update Princeton Added

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Update – Princeton’s Peter Millman has been added to the list of coaches who will be in attendance.  Princeton currently boast’s St. Andrew’s Max Susskind and Lake Highland Prep’s Will Rotatori.   One of the best ways to prepare for the future is to study the past.  A high school lacrosse player can apply this concept by looking at the past recruiting habits of the programs they are considering.  Are you going to spend five hundred bucks on a plane ticket and another six hundred on camp fees so you can travel up north to strut your stuff for a coach who has never recruited a Florida player? That’s a pretty big investment in a long shot to be the first. How about just driving down to Weston to play in front of coaches who have a history of recruiting Florida players.  Dough Shanahan has done a great job putting together a group of college coaches for the Nexsatar Lacrosse Florida Top 199 who have had success with kids from the Sunshine State.  Coaches like Seth Tierney of  Hofstra.  Coach Tierney currently has three of Florida’s guys on his roster.  We caught up with Coach Tierney and asked him about recruiting Florida players and an the Nexstar Lacrosse Showcase. See our interview with Hofstra’s Jake Rooney (Timber Creek HS) here. Craig McDonald is coming down to represent Rutgers where they have Jacob Werman (Pine Crest), Hunter Barnett (PineCrest), Rob Dattolo (Benjamin) on the 2013 roster and a signed NLI from St. Andrews’ Andy Wheeler. Towson, who just snared a commitment from St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore JP Crowley is coming as is Washington & Lee.  The Generals have Lake Highland Prep’s Warren Berenis (2011) and Austin Tamayo (2012). Pfieffer, has a new coach but a long history of recruiting players from the Central Florida area.  Current Floridians on teh Pfieffer rosters include Timber Creek Alumni Korey Lutes, Steven Tillman and Blake Studstill who holds a degree from Presbyterian and one more year of eligibility.  They also have Devon Menear (Hagerty) and Kyle Swink (Lake Mary) on the roster.
Florida Tech’s Andrew Conley played his high school lacrosse at Boone HS
Coach Ryan McAleavey of Florida Tech has made efforts to populate his roster with home grown talent.  The Panthers currently have seven Floridians on the roster, including Andrew Conley from Boone High School. Melbourne Central Catholic’s Matt Rogers plays for Oberlin  and Wooster’s Robert Friedhoff is from Miami Palmetto. Another coach coming down is Endicott’s Sean Quirk.  Coach Quirk may not have found his first Floridian yet but he is clearly interested in the Sunshine State.  He was recently here for the Peak South camp and will be making his second trip down in as many months to attend the Nexstar Lacrosse Showcase. It may be pertinent to point out that he is clearly open to players outside of the New York area as evidenced by players  from The UK, Nebraska, GA,  and the State of Washington. High Point, Adelphi, Marquette, Nazareth, Otterbein, St. John Fisher will also be at the Nexstar Lacrosse Showcase.  With all of the great players coming out of our state these days you can bet that they are going to be taking a good look at the talent.
